Managing subaccounts

Updated over 3 weeks ago

What are subaccounts?

Subaccounts are additional accounts created under your main (parent) account. They are designed to give team members, departments, or clients their own unique login credentials while still being connected to the main account.

Why use subaccounts?

Subaccounts help you keep your account admin under control. With subaccounts you can:

  • Give each subaccount its own username and password for secure access.

  • Grant or restrict access to tools and features. See permissions below.

  • Keep contacts, opt-out lists, and messaging history separate or shared.

  • Track usage and performance for each subaccount.

  • Add, edit, or remove subaccounts as your team or client base grows.

How to create subaccounts

You can create as many subaccounts as you like. And it only takes a few minutes to create each one.

  1. Navigate to account settings in the top right hand corner of the Dashboard.

  2. Click Account Settings, then Add Subaccount.

  3. Fill out the account information.

  4. Then, select or deselect subaccount permissions.

  5. Click Add and you’re done.

If you’re moving to ClickSend from another provider, we can bulk import your subaccounts for you. Contact customer support for assistance.

Sharing contacts across subaccounts

Want to share contacts across all subaccounts? It’s easy.

  1. Log Into the Dashboard.

  2. Then navigate to Account Settings > Add/Edit Subaccounts. If you cannot access this menu, contact your main account holder.

  3. To share contacts, enable the Share Contacts permission for the subaccount. If you want to keep contacts separate, disable this permission.

If you disable shared contact lists, you’ll need to set up an opt-out method for each subaccount.

Managing opt-outs with subaccounts

Making sure you manage opt-outs and unsubscribes correctly is very important. If you have subaccounts that don’t share contact lists, you'll need to set up an opt-out rule for each subaccount. We’ll walk you through it.

  1. Turn off the Share Contacts permission for all accounts, including the main account. You can follow the instructions above.

  2. In each subaccount, create a new opt-out list to maintain separation.

  3. Go to the Messaging Settings page of each subaccount.

  4. Edit the Stop Rule.

  5. Select the opt-out list you created for that subaccount.
