Understanding US SMS/MMS Pricing

Updated over a week ago

US SMS Costs

For messages sent to the United States, the total cost per message is calculated as:

Base Rate + Carrier Fee = Total Cost

Important:

  • Messages over 160 characters are split into multiple parts, and each part is charged separately.

  • This ensures full transparency when sending longer messages.

Base Rate

  • The standard cost per message charged by ClickSend

  • Decreases automatically with larger top-up amounts (tiered pricing)

Carrier Fee

  • A small surcharge imposed by US mobile networks (e.g., AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon)

  • Passed directly to the user to cover carrier delivery costs

US MMS Pricing

MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) messages generally cost more than SMS because they include images or media.
Like SMS, US MMS messages also incur a carrier fee on top of the base rate.

Volume Discounts

ClickSend offers tiered pricing, meaning the more you top up or send, the lower your base rate becomes.

  • Automatic Discounts: Applied immediately when selecting larger top-up packages via the dashboard

  • High Volume (>100,000 messages/month): Contact ClickSend for a custom rate by typing “speak with an agent” in your dashboard or support chat
