Automation

Updated this week

You can use set up some automated workflows on our platform at https://dashboard.clicksend.com/#/automations/rules

There are 2 types of automations that are supported

  1. Time Based

  2. Contact Based

What would I use them for?

Time based automations

If you need to send out the same message to the same group of people at a recurring timeslot, you're a good fit for Time Based automations. For example, you could send staff reminders at 5pm every day to go through the store closure checklist Alternatively, you could set up seasonal promotions that go live at specific times or schedule weekly team updates.

Contact based automations

Use our contact based automations if you need to automatically send messages to a newly created contact. For example, when a customer signs up and gets added to the contact list, you could send a new customer offer code to them Additionally, you can automatically send a welcome packet, referral incentives, or follow-up messages to nurture customer relationships.

How do I set them up?

  1. Before you start, create a list of recipients by navigating to the Contacts page. Ensure your contact list contains accurate information such as custom fields for placeholders.

  2. Navigate to the Automations page.

  3. Add an action by:

    • Giving it a unique name

    • Selecting your Sender ID

    • Composing your message, and optionally using placeholders to create personalized communications

  4. Create an automation workflow:

    • Give it an identifiable name

    • Select a pre-configured contact list to target

    • Choose the SMS action you created earlier Time-based automations:

    • Set the schedule or frequency for message sends (e.g., every week or month) Contact-based automations:

    • Specify a delay for when the message should be sent after a contact is added or updated

    • Choose the start date for your automation and save your workflow.

And that's it! You're ready to get sending. For advanced use cases or complex triggers, consider integrating with external services like Zapier or using ClickSend’s API capabilities, which allow for even greater customization of automation triggers and workflows.

Best Practices for Contact Management

  • Always update your contact lists so new or modified data is incorporated seamlessly into scheduled automations.

  • Standardize critical fields like birthdays or custom tags to enhance integration compatibility.

  • Regularly test placeholder formats in your messages to avoid errors in personalized texts.
