Group SMS

Updated this week

The Group SMS feature lets you create a group chat experience via SMS, where replies are shared with the entire contact list. It’s ideal for team coordination, alerts, or group updates.

How group SMS works

When you send a message to a Group SMS contact list, all members (including yourself) receive the message. Any replies are automatically forwarded to everyone in the group.

Set up group SMS

  1. Create your contact list
Add all participants to the list. If you want to receive replies, be sure to include yourself as a contact.

  2. Use a dedicated number (recommended)
For best results, use a dedicated number as your Sender ID. This ensures all messages in and out are tied to one number.

If your account is used for multiple messaging purposes, a dedicated number helps keep Group SMS activity separate.

  3. Configure Email to SMS settings

    • Go to Messaging Settings > Email SMS.

    • Set Get message from email body only.

    • Make sure your sending email is listed under Allowed Addresses. Add it if it’s not there.

  4. Set up forwarding automation
In Messaging Settings, create an automation to forward any replies received on your dedicated number to the contact list.

  5. Send your message

    • Open your contact list and click Group SMS.

    • Copy the custom email address provided.

    • From your email inbox, send your message to that email address.

Everyone in the list will receive the message—and any replies will be sent to the full group.

You cannot use ClickSend’s transactional email service to send Email to SMS messages.
