What is a TFN?
A TFN is a special type of phone number used for business messaging. In the United States and Canada, you must register a TFN (or 10DLC) to send SMS or MMS messages to your customers.
TFNs are designed to be recognisable and trusted. Customers won’t be charged to reply to messages sent from a TFN, and they’re more likely to see your business as legitimate and professional.
Why you need to register your TFN
Registering your TFN is a requirement set by mobile carriers. It’s part of a wider effort to reduce spam, protect customers, and make sure only verified businesses can send messages. If you try to send messages from an unregistered number, they may be blocked or marked as spam.
You’ll also need to show proof that your customers have opted in to receive your messages. Without it, your TFN application won’t be approved.
Benefits of using a TFN
Better deliverability: Registered TFNs are more likely to reach your customers successfully.
Improved brand trust: Toll-free numbers are familiar and look more credible than random mobile numbers.
Compliant messaging: Registration helps you meet regulatory requirements in the US and Canada.
Free for recipients: Customers won’t be charged to reply, and at ClickSend, you’re only billed for outbound messages.
