What is Smart Assign?
Smart Assign is an intelligent system that ensures your SMS messages are sent from the most compliant sender. Phone carriers only deliver messages if they come from a compliant Sender ID — sending from the right Sender ID matters.
Smart Assign simplifies global SMS by:
- Automatically selecting the best and most compliant Sender ID to send from.
- Allowing you to view the different Sender ID rules on a country basis.
- Giving you control to set a compliant sender for each country you’re sending to.
How can Smart Assign help?
- Reduce failed messages: Use carrier-approved Sender IDs to minimise message failures.
- Full control and transparency: Choose which Sender ID your recipients see.
- Easy global sending: Set up senders for multiple countries with one click.
- No code changes needed: Simply call the Smart Assign API endpoints.
Is Smart Assign available in the Dashboard?
Not yet. Smart Assign is only accessible via the API, with plans for Dashboard integration in 2025.
How does Smart Assign choose a sender for me?
Smart Assign scans your registered Sender IDs and matches them with country-specific rules, selecting the most compliant option. If multiple senders are compliant, it will choose the most trusted or recently purchased Sender ID.For example, if you have both a compliant shared number and a local dedicated number, Smart Assign will pick the local dedicated number.
Can I overwrite Smart Assign’s choice?
Yes. You can override the selection and choose any compliant, activated Sender ID. You must overwrite Smart Assign with compliant and activated Sender IDs.Smart Assign is only available via the API only. Is Smart Assign available on a sub-account level?
Not yet. It's only configurable at the main account level, but sub-account support is planned for 2025.
Is Smart Assign available for products other than SMS?
Yes, for now. It's available for SMS Campaigns and Quick SMS, with MMS support expected to be announced in late 2025.
Where can I learn more about the Smart Assign API?
Please visit our developer portal.: https://developers.clicksend.com/docs/messaging/sender_ids/default-senders/
What is a Sender ID?
A Sender ID is the number or name which your recipients see when they receive your SMS. Read what is a Sender ID?
What is a default sender?
A default sender is the Sender ID which will always be used when sending an SMS. Default senders are country specific. They are selected automatically by Smart Assign or configured by you before sending an SMS. This means that you don’t need to configure a sender at the point of sending. You can set and forget your Sender IDs for each country.
If you’re an API customer this means that you don’t have to specify the sender_id string when you send an SMS.
