Prerequisites
Create a ClickSend account to get your API credentials.
Create an Airtable account if you don’t have one yet.
Installation
In your Airtable workspace, go to Extensions and search for ClickSend.
Click Install to add the extension to your base.
Authentication
Open the ClickSend extension inside Airtable.
Enter your:
Username
– your ClickSend usernameAPI Key
– found in your ClickSend dashboard
Configuration
To send bulk SMS, fill in the required fields in the ClickSend extension:
Select Table & Phone Column – Choose the Airtable table and the column containing phone numbers.
Sender – Input your dedicated ClickSend number or leave blank to use shared numbers.
Message – Compose your message. You can use merge fields from Airtable to personalise.
Status Column – Choose or create a column to store delivery status.
Custom String (optional) – Use this to tag or group messages via API.
Click Calculate to check cost and then Send.
You’ll receive a confirmation once messages are successfully sent.
Troubleshooting (Bulk SMS)
Check credentials – Must use your API key, not your password.
No credits? – Visit the Billing page to top up.
Required fields – Ensure Table, Phone Number, and Message are filled.
Alpha Tag issues?
Only 11 characters max, no spaces.
Some countries don’t support Alpha Tags.
Sender ID might still be pending approval in your dashboard.

Can I use Alpha Tags as Sender ID?
Yes, in supported countries (see list above). Max 11 characters, no spaces.

Input your Alpha Tag in the Sender field during configuration.

Automate SMS via Airtable Email → SMS
Send SMS automatically when a new record is added to your Airtable table using ClickSend’s Email to SMS feature.
Prerequisites
Add your email address to your ClickSend Allowed Emails under [Email to SMS Settings.]
Ensure your Airtable table includes a Phone Number column.
Setup
In Airtable, open Automations.
Set the trigger to “When a record is created or updated.”
Add an Action: Select Gmail and authenticate.
In the To field, dynamically insert the phone number field + @sms.clicksend.com
Example:

becomes +123456789@sms.clicksend.comAdd a subject and compose your SMS message (max 1,224 characters).
Test and Save the automation.
Now, when a record is added, an SMS will be sent to the number in the table.
Troubleshooting (Email to SMS)
Email not sending? – Make sure your Gmail is listed under Allowed Emails.
No credits? – Check or top up your account here.
No phone number in record? – Add a valid number in the proper format (international or local).
FAQs (Email to SMS)
Can I send SMS using my business name?
Yes, in supported countries. Business names (Alpha Tags) must be ≤11 characters, no spaces.
How do I set my business name as sender?
In Email SMS settings, click your email address and enter your business name in the Sender field.
Where do I monitor my messages?
View all your SMS logs in the ClickSend dashboard.
