Regulations and Best Practices

  • Forbidden content: Gambling, adult & religious.
  • Marketing traffic: Suggested to send only in daytime hours. Opt-in is required.
  • SMS delivery to CDMA networks such as Visaphone, M-Tel) is prone to issues.
  • MTN has a DND registry. Transactional and OTP messages are allowed for DND subscribers. Only end subscribers can request their number to be removed from DND registry to resume the reception of bulk/marketing traffic.
  • Requires brand name in the content of every transactional and OTP message.
